Handle with Care

I participated in the Vogue Talent Show 2026. I managed to get shortlisted.

After finishing my final year project (which has not been posted on LinkedIn), I realised it was going to take more than drawing cars to get employed. I started to enter myself into a few illustration contests I came across online as a way to practice my creativity and critical thinking. The Vogue Talent Prize was one of them. I liked the idea of getting involved in fashion stuff but I had zero knowledge about how to go about it. To put simply, nothing much crosses my mind when I dress to go out.

The theme of this contest was "RetroFuture", applicants are invited to imagine the world of tomorrow, presenting a distinct visual perspective on the future of fashion and culture, and the influences that will shape it. These submissions can be a new creation or an existing piece of work.

I have included my sketches and brainstorming in this album of pictures but I settled on something headwear related. Here is the 100-word description of my final illustration:

With the rapid advancement of technology, we seem to drift further away from who we are and where we come from. As Singapore moves towards a future increasingly integrated with artificial intelligence, we risk losing our sense of identity as a multicultural garden city. This illustration is my interpretation of Singapore’s future, balancing technological progress with the culture and heritage that continue to unify its people, symbolised through the orchid hat. While artificial intelligence can greatly benefit society, its impact ultimately depends on how it is used. Hence, it should be handled with care.
